Ministerial Opening Address
The Hon. Victor Michael Dominello
MP, Minister for Innovation and Better Regulation, NSW
In April 2011 he was sworn in as Minister for Aboriginal Affairs and Minister for Citizenship and Communities. His portfolio responsibilities included multicultural affairs, veterans’ affairs, volunteering and youth. Following the Liberals & Nationals Government’s re-election in March 2015, Victor was sworn in as the state’s first Minister for Innovation and Better Regulation. Victor is responsible for the Office of Fair Trading, the State Insurance Regulatory Authority, Safework NSW and DFSI’s Services & Digital Innovation Division. Since taking on the portfolio in April 2015, Victor has overseen a number of reforms including the establishment of a NSW Data Analytics Centre as well as changes to strata title laws, real estate underquoting laws and the use of sunset clauses in off-the-plan property contracts. Victor is currently leading the Social Innovation Council, a partnership between NSW Government agencies and NGO leaders, established to drive sectoral reform in human service delivery. Prior to his parliamentary career, Victor cherished the opportunity to travel to many places around the world and looks back fondly on his experiences in India, Central and South America, Europe, the US and Asia. He is also a passionate supporter of West Tigers rugby league team.

Columnist, The Register
In 1994 Pesce co-invented VRML, a 3D interface to the World Wide Web. Pesce has written six books, including VRML: Browsing and Building Cyberspace and The Playful World: How Technology is Transforming Our Imagination, which used toys such as Furby and Sony’s PlayStation to explore our interactive future. As an educator, Pesce founded graduate programs in interactive media at both the University of Southern California’s world-famous Cinema School and the Australian Film, Radio and Television School. Pesce currently holds an appointment as Honorary Associate in the University of Sydney’s Digital Cultures Program. In 2012 Pesce founded MooresCloud, a startup developing connected lighting products for the home

Eitan Bienstock

Entrepreneur, investor and startup mentor, Eitan spent the past 20 years working for fortune 100 companies, venture capital firms and founding couple of startups in Israel, the US and Australia. During the late 90’s Eitan was responsible for the development of Intel Israel’s incubator program, which resulted in over USD100M increase in sales for supported companies in the first 3 years of the program including a successful listing on NASDAQ (NVMI). After selling his events hire and online marketing companies in 2013, Eitan joined Artesian Capital as a managing director, corporate venturing. During 2014 Eitan served as the Global Growth Director and ATP Innovation. Currently, Eitan is Managing Director of Everything IoT and Managing Partner at the San Francisco based Propeller Venture Capital.

Genevieve Bell
Sr. Fellow and vice president of the Corporate Strategy Office, Intel Corporation
An accomplished anthropologist and researcher, Bell joined Intel in 1998. She has been granted a number of patents for consumer electronics innovations throughout her career, with additional patents in the user experience space pending, and is the author of numerous journal papers and articles. She was named an Intel Fellow in 2016. In addition to her position at Intel, Bell is a highly regarded industry expert and frequent commentator on the intersection of culture and technology. She has been featured in publications such as Wired, Forbes, The Atlantic, Fast Company, the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times. She is also a sought-after public speaker and panelist at technology conferences worldwide for the insights she has gained from extensive international field work and research. Her industry recognition includes being listed among the "100 Most Creative People in Business" by Fast Company in 2010, induction in the Women in Technology International Hall of Fame in 2012, and being honored as the 2013 Woman of Vision for Leadership by the Anita Borg Institute. Bell's book, "Divining a Digital Future: Mess and Mythology in Ubiquitous Computing," written in collaboration with Paul Dourish, was published by MIT Press in 2011. Bell holds a combined bachelor's and master's degree in anthropology from Bryn Mawr College and a master's degree and Ph.D. in cultural anthropology from Stanford University, where she was a lecturer in the anthropology department from 1996 to 1998.
Matthew James Bailey
IoT Pioneer, Senior Executive, Advisor and Keynote Speaker
Mr. Matthew James Bailey has been internationally recognized as a pioneer in the third wave of global innovation termed the Internet of Things (IoT). He has been recognized by the US government as a person of Extraordinary Ability and received award nominations (alongside Elon Musk and Sir Tim Berners Lee) for his work in communication technologies, specifically Low Power Wide Area Networks (LPWANs). Mr Bailey was privileged to introduce the IoT to the UK Prime Minister and has been appointed by the Premier of Alberta to advise the government on economic development frameworks, innovation and IoT. He has been Chairman of Marketing for the global IoT standards body - Weightless SIG, backed by global technology powerhouses such as ARM Holdings, CSR and Accenture. Recently, he partnered with a Fortune 500 company, Innovation Pavilion and Denver South to co-create a pioneering IoT business accelerator called TechRiot, based in Colorado, US. With a global reach, Matthew is currently advising and working with Fortune X technology companies, governments, investors, economic development agencies and start-ups to participate as a driving force in the IoT.
Jason Jameson
Director, IBM Watson Internet of Things, Asia Pacific
Jason Jameson leads IBM's Watson Internet of Things organisation in Asia Pacific. In this role, Jason is responsible for helping clients leverage the enormous potential of an increasingly connected world through IBM's deep capabilities across Asset Management, Continuous Engineering, Predictive Maintenance & Quality and IoT Platform & Solutions.
Jason Jameson started his IT career over 20 years ago. Originally from Australia, Jason has lived in Asia for the past 7 years, including 5 years based in Shanghai at IBM's Growth Market headquarters where he was the executive responsible for IBM's PureSystems & Competitive Sales for Growth Markets. Jason has a background in Business Process Management (BPM) and Analytics, having led IBM's Business Process Management (BPM) organisation in Asia Pacific and IBM Analytics in ASEAN. Jason has also been deeply involved in acquisitions, leading the sales integration of ILOG and Lombardi in Asia Pacific and later leading IBM's Acquisition Integration organisation in Asia Pacific/GCG/MEA, where he was responsible for over 15 acquisitions. Jason holds a B.Sc. in Business Information Technology. He lives with his wife, Ann, and two children in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

John Chambers
Executive Director, Telstra Home & Premium Service, Telstra Corporation
John Chambers has 20 years of experience in the IT and Telecoms industry, but values his earlier work as a Maitre-D and Rehabilitation Counselor as crucial in preparing him for a career of passionate service. John has served customers of all shapes and sizes at Telstra. He began 15 years ago leading accounts for some of Telstra's largest enterprise customers, and has since led functions throughout the business, delivering diverse outcomes including systems transformations and integrated market segment strategy. From 2009 as Director of Fixed Products he led the turnaround of the market performance and customer experience of Telstra's fixed product portfolio. From March 2014 as Executive Director of Mobile Products, John led an $11bn portfolio of over 15m customers, comprising all mobile product and segments from Consumer Prepaid to Enterprise IOT. John now leads the Telstra Home and Premium Service team for International and New Business. John holds a Degree in Economics from Macquarie University.

Having been born in to a tech family, a professional career in IT was encouraged from a young age. Nicki has over 20 years’ experience in the IT industry in both the UK and Australia originally as a Computer Scientist before moving in to Sales and Marketing with companies such as KAZ and Microsoft, before spearheading her own data integration tech start-up called Breeze. Today Nicki is the CEO of MOQdigital, an ASX listed System Integrator with over 200 employees providing technical solutions, managed services and specialised IP. MOQdigital builds clever solutions for customers through the smart integration of apps, devices & data and recently won the 2016 Microsoft Worldwide Country Partner of the Year award for an innovative health and safety Internet of Things solution. Nicki was awarded in the industry as the 2014 ARN Women in ICT Entrepreneur of the Year and has a key interest in cloud, analytics and the Internet of Things - combined with her passion for storytelling she brings real world solutions to life.
Scott Wharton
Executive GM, Strategy & Performance for Enterprise Services, Commonwealth Bank
Scott has held executive positions in Financial Services and the Not-For-Profit sectors spanning the United States, Asia and Australia. Scott recently joined the Commonwealth Bank of Australia as Executive General Manager, Strategy & Performance for Enterprise Services. In this role he leads various teams including supplier partner management, technology innovation and strategy for CBA’s enterprise services. Scott is also a member of CBA’s Indigenous Action Committee, and is a Board Member of the University of Technology Sydney Business School. Prior to this role, Scott was a Managing Director of Citigroup based in New York City. As Global Head of Supply Chain for Citi, supplier diversity and sustainability was within his areas of responsibility.
Outside of work Scott enjoys kayaking and spending time with his wife and kids.
Professor Jill Slay
Director, Australian Centre for Cyber Security at UNSW Canberra @ ADFA
This centre has developed critical mass in cross-disciplinary research and teaching in Cyber Security to serve the Australian Government and Defence Force and help strengthen the Digital Economy. She has established an international research reputation in cyber security and has worked in collaboration with many industrial partners. She was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for service to the information technology industry through contributions in the areas of forensic computer science, security, protection of infrastructure and cyber-terrorism. She was made a Fellow of the International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium for her service to the information security industry (and holds their CISSP and CCFP certifications). She has published one book and more than 130 refereed book chapters, journal articles or research papers in information assurance, critical infrastructure protection, security and forensic computing in the last 10 years. She has completed the supervision of 16 PhDs and many Masters and Honours theses and has been awarded over AUD 2 million in Australian Government Category 1 research income, including a Future Fellowship.
Piers Hogarth-Scott
National IoT Leader, KPMG
As KPMGs National IoT Leader, Piers draws on the firm’s deep industry, technology, policy and analytics insights, to assist organisations to better deliver safe and effective IoT solutions. Helping with new markets, strategy and implementation, security, data analytics, local and international policy, growth plans, revenue, tax compliance and more. Piers key focus is helping to unlock opportunities presented by the IoT with a particular focus on Smart Cities including connected transport & infrastructure, Smart Campus (education) and Smart Agriculture. Piers is also board advisor to Hypercat, an alliance and standard driving secure and interoperable IoT for Industry and Cities. He has been recognised by Business Age as one of the Top 50 Entrepreneurs in the UK to have made the most significant contribution to the internet, innovation and wealth creation.
Andrea Beattie
Manager Strategic Corporate Planning, City of Sydney
The City of Sydney is one of Australia’s premier Councils with responsibility for central Sydney, the heart of Australia’s global city. The City is a leader in innovative strategy and is currently undertaking some of the largest urban transformation projects in the country. Sustainable Sydney 2030 is the plan for the sustainable development of the city to 2030 and beyond. Adopted in 2008, it continues to evolve, responding to changing circumstances and contemporary issues. As Manager Strategic Corporate Planning, Andrea has carriage of Sustainable Sydney 2030. Previously, Andrea led the teams responsible for research, analysis and policy and strategy development addressing key economic, cultural and social issues in the city.

In her current role, Elizabeth is guiding CSIRO’s strategic direction, understanding and defining CSIRO’s national and global market roadmaps, and leading CSIRO’s Innovation and Entrepreneurial Program, which is aimed at developing a pipeline of new investable ventures. Previous to this, she founded and headed up iAccelerate, raising $16.5M from the state government to build the iAccelerate Centre holding 280 entrepreneurs. Elizabeth has thirty years’ experience in Innovation, Research and Development, Technical Management, Business Development, M&A and Strategic Planning, and during that time has held Senior Executive roles with CSIRO, UOW, Alcatel, Optus, Optus Vision, GEC Plessey and NorTel Australia and research roles at Bell Northern Research in Research Triangle Park, USA and Nun’s Island, Canada. Elizabeth has been the recipient of a number of awards including being Alcatel Corporate Executive in 2001 and 2002, Top 100 business women in Australia, Business Class Magazine, Dec/Jan 1999, recipient of the AGSM Alumni Prize in 1999 and the AGSM Alumni Scholarship 1998 from UNSW. In 2012 she was named one of Australia’s 100 most influential women by AFR/Westpac.

Craig Blair is a co-founder and managing partner at AirTree Ventures, an early and growth stage venture firm that is backing world-class entrepreneurs. Craig has been a principle in two venture capital funds for over 10 years and he has been involved in building some of the leading software businesses in Australia and the UK.
Craig’s experience includes Executive Director of netus, a Venture Fund that delivered top decile returns to investors, founding CEO & Executive Chairman of Beamly, Chairman of PetCircle and Founder/Director of Travelselect, one of the early online travel companies in the UK that successfully exited to Lastminute.com
Craig’s earlier career involved management consultancy, investment banking and civil engineering. Craig holds a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Sydney and an MBA from INSEAD.

Professor Roy Green
Dean of Business School, University of Technology Sydney
Prof. Green doctorate is from the University of Cambridge and he has published widely in the areas of innovation policy and management, including projects with the OECD and European Commission. He has been an advocate in higher education, business and government for creative mindsets and design thinking, as well as design-led innovation as a key to making Australia a globally competitive knowledge-based economy. Roy chaired the Australian Government’s Innovative Regions Centre, CSIRO Manufacturing Sector Advisory Council and NSW Manufacturing Council, and served on the Prime Minister’s Manufacturing Taskforce and ABS Innovation Reference Group. He led Australian participation in a global study of management and productivity, coordinated an Australian Business Deans Council initiative on the future of management education, jointly founded the Australian Design Integration Network and has co-authored recent publications on productivity, skills and digital transformation. Roy was recently appointed adviser to the Senate Economic References Committee’s Innovation Inquiry and is the new Chair of the Queensland Competition Authority.
Tim Harvey
GM Regional and Agribusiness Banking for NSW, Commonwealth Bank
Tim Harvey is Commonwealth Bank’s General Manager Regional and Agribusiness Banking for NSW. He leads a team of 150 staff based at 18 locations throughout the state.
Tim was raised in a farming family and continues to run his own commercial cropping operation, and he brings his genuine understanding of the sector to his role. His deepest passion is progressing regional and rural Australia, so it can continue to be a lively and vibrant economy. Tim believes innovation and technology are essential if rural and regional Australia are to thrive, and he is currently working on identifying and fast-tracking agri innovation tech projects and partnerships within the Bank. He joined Commonwealth Bank as a graduate and has held leadership roles for the past 14 years, always with a focus on regional and rural clients. As Regional and Agribusiness Banking General Manager, he is responsible for both agri and regional commercial clients and is highly cognisant of the connection between farm business and other business in our regions. He has a personal passion for supporting mental health awareness in regional Australia. Tim holds a Bachelor of Science with a major in Agriculture from Charles Sturt University.

She developed an action plan to support Sydney’s tech entrepreneurs because enabling tech startups to launch and scale is essential to Sydney remaining a globally-competitive city. This involved thorough research, building relationships with people across the ecosystem, devising and implementing pilot projects and liaising with executive and staff across council to create a robust, well-resourced plan of action. The City now produces an introduction to the ecosystem seminar, supports women leading high-growth companies through Springboard Enterprises Australia, facilitates industry initiatives to raise the profile of Sydney’s tech entrepreneurs such as Spark Festival, CeBIT and Remix and offers workshops for young people in how to code and entrepreneurship education.
Professor Jane Burns

Jane Burns is Professor of Innovation and Industry at the University of Sydney. In 2010 she raised 35M as the founder and CEO of Young and Well Cooperative Research Centre an organisation that over its five years drove industry focused research and development to explore the role of new and emerging technology in improving wellbeing. She is Chair of the National Advisory Council for the Veterans and Veterans Families Counselling Service. She provides strategic advice to the government, university and social enterprise sector and is a member of over 10 advisory boards and government working group, including as a member of the Vision for Australia Advisory Council, the Department of Communications Online Safety Working Group and the Department of Veteran Affairs Clinical Reference Group. Jane was a winner in the category of Social Enterprise and Not-for-profit for 2015’s Australian Financial Review and Westpac Group 100 Women of Influence, and was a Victorian Finalist in the 2012 Telstra Business Women's Awards. She has a PhD in Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine (Public Health and Epidemiology) University of Adelaide.

Through his revolutionary venture technology concept, Sebastien has redesigned the business model for the early stage investment and development of technology startups.
Sebastien has received many awards, including E&Y entrepreneur of the year in 2013, three time Anthill 30 under 30 recipient, most inspirational engineer nominee for IEAust and top post graduate researcher at UNSW in 2007 for his patented technology in landing UAVs autonomously on warships.
